About us

Edible education in the Okanagan

Nurturing Young Palates, & Growing Healthy Futures.

Established in 2015, Chefs in the Classroom, an initiative by the Okanagan Chefs Association, thrives on the dedication of passionate volunteers, including chefs, gardeners, nutritionists, and exceptional community members. Every spring, we eagerly enter classrooms across the Okanagan, sharing our expertise and love for cultivating, cooking, and enjoying locally sourced, healthy foods with enthusiastic grade 3 students.

As the program evolves each year, we are thrilled to announce updates, incorporating valuable feedback into revised lesson plans. In our continuous commitment to growth, this year brings expanded indigenous content, additional knife safety skills, and exciting new recipes to enrich the culinary journey for all participants.

Vision

Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders Through Culinary Exploration: We envision a generation of young leaders who not only savour the delights of nutritious and locally sourced foods but are also equipped with the knowledge and passion to make mindful choices that resonate throughout their lives.

Mission

Chefs in the Classroom is committed to inspiring and educating students through hands-on culinary experiences, fostering a love for nutritious eating, sustainability, and cultural awareness. Our goal is to empower young minds with the knowledge and skills to make informed, healthy choices, contributing to a brighter and more sustainable future.
