New and Returning Volunteers 2023

    Chefs in the Classroom has returned and we are eager to get volunteers back in the classroom.

    Are you passionate about teaching children how to grow, cook and eat healthy local food?

    Are you ready to create our future food champions?

    Well, Chefs in the Classroom is the place for you!  We are seeking volunteers in and out of the classroom –

    Chefs, Cooks, Culinary Professionals and home cooks

    Educators, parents and others who contribute to our success

    Farmers and avid gardeners

    Nutritionists

    Photographers

    You do not have to be a chef or a member of the Okanagan Chefs Association to participate

    Our mission is to educate children in our community how to grow, cook and eat local foods, with a vision of growing healthy children in our community.

    Teams are in the classroom mid-April to mid-June.

    There are 8 lesson plans delivered on Monday mornings – allow 2.5 hours

    Lessons include:

    Planting a Garden

    Nutrition and Make a Smoothie

    Vegetables & Salad

    Thin, Transplant, Compost, Cook with Tomatoes

    Vegetables & Soup

    Herbs & Flavour Combinations

    Indigenous Foods & Traditions

    Farm Field Trip, Fruit Compote & Graduation

    I am so pleased to be a part of Chefs in the Classroom.  It was beautifully organized- everyone worked so well together…  And of course the children were adorable.

    I can see this is destined to be a very fulfilling activity for me, I am grateful to be included.
